October's Party - George Cooper

October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came
The chestnuts, oaks, and maples,
And leaves of every name.

The sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.

October - my favorite month!

Harvest time in my Vegetable Garden

Here's how my garden looked earlier in the summer. I love going out and picking the veggies for my ‘salad’. I grow 3 varieties of lettuce, spinach, mesclun mix, 2 varieties of cucumbers, 5 varieties of cherry tomatoes, plum, and heirloom tomatoes.

This time of year there's lots of tomatoes. Here's a fresh veggie tomato sauce Cyndy made.

I’ve learned how to can, and ‘put by’ for the winter. Its wonderful to cook with a jar of home-made tomato sauce and remember the taste of summer.

It was a banner pepper year!

One of the new things I tried to grow this year was 'Jack Be Little Pumpkins'. Look how cute they look on my window sill.

Let's hope for a few more weeks without a frost. It has already gotten down in the 30's at night.

The Common Ground Country Fair - Unity, Maine

Judy, Katie, and Raf came to visit for our annual 'Fair Weekend'. The Common Ground Fair is our favorite. It is put on by MOFGA, Maine Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association, and is a 'celebration of rural life'. It is a fair unlike any other - there are no rides, the food is all organic, and grown locally in Maine.

Judy loves the Fiber Farms Tent, and gets inspired for all kinds of projects.

I love the farmer's market, the colorful displays of produce, and get ideas of what I might try to grow next year.

We enjoy looking at the prize winning vegetables & flowers in the Exhibition Hall.

Katie and Raf try out the brightly colored hula-hoops.

It's a great place for 'people watching'.

We like to watch the folk artists at work.

The food is the best. Everything is grown on organic farms in Maine.

Can't wait until next year!

Shaw's Fish & Lobster Wharf Restaurant New Harbor, Maine

No trip to Pemaquid is complete without a stop in New Harbor, Maine for a 'lobstah'. New Harbor is a working fishing village.

What a great lobster roll.

Gloria's thinking about taking one home.
